Functional Description
The VolumeCheck allows non-contact inspection for sample volume in well plates and test tubes. The VolumeCheck works with a variety of labware, including 96 well plates, 96 tube racks, and high-volume test tube racks. The labware must be uncapped or unsealed. The 384 well plate format and sealed labware are not supported at this time.
Using acoustic sensor technology the VolumeCheck determines the sample volume in a well or tube. Sample volume is derived from the acoustic sample measurement and a calibration plot generated with previously collected volume measurements. The sample volume detected by the VolumeCheck can be influenced by variations in labware that may limit system resolution. This may cause VolumeCheck's system resolution to vary based on the type of labware and sample used. The VolumeCheck's best case system resolution is in the +/- 10ul range. For scans of 2ml deep well plate a VolumeCheck system resolution of +/- 15ul is typical.
Intuitive Software
The VolumeCheck's software allows quick scanning of a well plate or tube rack and graphically displays sample volume of each well on the plate. Volume data is associated to well plate ID and well position, and saved to an output file. The software includes a calibration plot utility to collect sensor and volume data for a variety of labware. Optional ActiveX control software is available for LIMS and lab automation integration.
Robust Reliability
VolumeCheck operation requires placing a well plate or tube rack on the VolumeCheck's input tray. Plate loading can be automated using a robotic plate loader. The input tray is retracted into VolumeCheck and volume scanning is complete in about one minute. The
VolumeCheck features a rugged encoder based mechanical platform engineered for continuous
operation.
Options
The VolumeCheck is available in three configurations a low-speed model, high-speed model (with one minute plate scan), and large-volume model that handles test tubes above 2ml. The VolumeCheck will handle most common shallow and deep well plates.
Applications
The VolumeCheck automates sample volume measurement for:
• Compound library management
• Sample volume verification
• Minimum volume measurement
Model / Capacity / Throughput
The VolumeCheck's processing times vary by model and settings. Typical VolumeCheck operation is to scan a well plate and create output file that lists sample volume for each well.
• Low speed model - 96 well scan in 3 - 6 minutes
• High speed model - 96 well scan in 1 - 2 minutes
• Large volume model - 24 well scan in 1 - 2 minutes
